SPECIAL
A new definition of safety
For your health and protection in the field
We promise exceptional safety. That is why we set the standards ourselves in many cases – and we set them higher than required by the norms. In addition, we subject ourselves to particularly demanding safety tests, such as those conducted by VCA in England, UTAC in France and TÜV Rheinland in Germany. And we don't just test individual models, but our entire range of vehicles. That's because we want our customers and the emergency services to trust us.

4x4 Offroad
Using the example of the WAS 500 Ambulance Type B 4x4 Iveco box body
Our new box body ambulance is setting new standards in off-road capability and is specially designed for emergency operations in difficult terrain and remote regions. With all-wheel drive, differential locks and a robust suspension, the vehicle offers optimal traction on surfaces such as mud, snow or debris. The well-thought-out storage concept includes two stretcher supports in the patient compartment, as well as ergonomically placed external and underfloor compartments for oxygen cylinders and rescue tools. Thanks to a mechanical-pneumatic lifting support system, the ambulance can be loaded and unloaded comfortably and safely despite its high ground clearance.

E-mobility in series:
The WAS 500 electric ambulance box body 5.5 T
E-mobility is powerful technology you can rely on – and that goes for the ambulance service, too. We have put our WAS 500 E-Ambulance through its paces in Germany and Europe in real-life environments and operations. The result: our e-mobility is ready for series production!

Special vehicles and ambulances.
We turn vehicles into something special.
WAS is a leading manufacturer of special and ambulance vehicles. There are many reasons for this, most of which can be found in a WAS vehicle itself: the innovative technology, the perfectly fitting ergonomics, the high-quality workmanship made in Germany and the expertise of the employees. A WAS vehicle makes rescuers stronger and operations more efficient.
For decades, we have been providing customised, innovative solutions in the construction of special-purpose vehicles – from ambulances and emergency vehicles to complex special-purpose vehicles. We put people at the centre of what we do, whether it's in terms of the safety and efficiency of our vehicles or the way we operate as a company. Our values are firmly rooted in our corporate philosophy: quality, innovation and responsibility characterise our actions.
Not everything that customers and rescue workers appreciate about WAS can be built into our vehicles: for example, the contact person who is personally there for the customer and accompanies them from the idea to its realisation. Or the qualified technical support that provides fast and reliable assistance. Fixed contact persons and specialists are the extras that keep vehicles and rescuers operational – for years to come. With us, this is standard.
The WAS factor
More than 450 employees in Emsbüren manufacture sophisticated special and ambulance vehicles. Developers, technicians, electricians, vehicle builders and other specialists work hand in hand here. Because 90% of the work involved in producing special vehicles from WAS is still done by hand. And so, detail by detail, a high-performance basic vehicle is transformed into something very special: a special vehicle from WAS. In total, more than 800 people work for WAS worldwide, working to ensure your safety.
