Berthold Raterink
Master Electrician
When Berthold Raterink started his training as an electrician at WAS in 1991, the profession of mechatronics engineer did not yet exist. However, the wide range of tasks that are part of the job description of the training occupation introduced in 1998 already existed. Berthold Raterink was the company's first apprentice, later the first mechatronics trainer at WAS, and he trained the first mechatronics engineer in the district of Bentheim. Three milestones that we are proud of as a team. He now applies his knowledge in the work preparation, where he benefits from his expertise in the planning: ‘Thanks to my experience in the company, I recognise the interrelationships and can optimise processes very effectively. But the fact that everything runs smoothly is also due to the fact that we get on well as a team and enjoy working together.’

"If you are passionate about vehicles and technology, WAS is the perfect place for you. The combination of vocational school and work is very varied and my tasks have challenged me from the outset. The constant change through the various production areas of the company, but also the opportunity to get a taste of the other companies in the group, ensure that boredom is simply not an option for me.

"I enjoy going to work every day. That's because of the great atmosphere in the team. I've never felt left alone here at WAS. There was always someone there to help me, answer my questions, take me by the hand. After my training, I was offered the opportunity to further my education to become a personnel officer. Meanwhile, I'm already one of the old hands here and now supervise the trainees when they are assigned to us in the human resources department."

"The degree programme at WAS is very varied and full of opportunities. You get to work in a number of different departments, on a range of projects, you can also take a look at other companies and you are given free rein in the training workshop. On top of that, the students are very supportive of each other, which makes it easy to get started. But what I find most exciting is the fact that I am now designing products that will save lives. It's impressive to see the technical innovations that are built into the products here and constantly being improved. I would choose WAS again in a heartbeat."
