WAS Wietmarscher Ambulanz- und Sonderfahrzeug GmbH joins the LUEG Group. Combined expertise will generate a strong mobility solutions provider

Hamburg/Bochum. A new, strong pillar comes under the LUEG Group umbrella. The family-owned business from the Ruhr area has acquired WAS – Wietmarscher Ambulanz- und Sonderfahrzeug GmbH. Under the wing of Norddeutsche Vermögen, WAS has developed into the leading European manufacturer of EMS vehicles since 2002. "This is a milestone on our way to a growth-oriented, secure future as a broad-based mobility provider", Martijn Storm CEO of the LUEG Group said. WAS occupies more than 600 employees worldwide. "This step is very positive for both partners, because two dynamic family businesses have come together here", WAS Managing Director Andreas Plöger commented.

WAS will continue to operate independently within the LUEG Group. All WAS employees have been retained at their current locations. "Our successfully launched and extensive realignment, which is expressed, among other things, by the two modern, forward-looking locations in Germany and Poland, will be continued by LUEG", WAS Managing Director Andreas Plöger confirmed.
Christian Mahnert-Lueg, LUEG shareholder and member of the Supervisory Board, views the acquisition as an important step for the group of companies: "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to include Europe's leading EMS vehicle manufacturer as part of the LUEG Group. On behalf of the entire owner family, I warmly welcome all employees at the WAS locations -worldwide".

On course for expansion in the EMS coach and conversions segment
With the acquisition of WAS, the LUEG Group is consistently pursuing the goal of growth in the attractive vehicle coach and conversions segment in the commercial vehicle business. "Now we are taking a big step forward with our portfolio expansion and WAS is an innovative manufacturer on an expansion course that excellently complements our value chain spanning trade, service and production", Martijn Storm, Spokesman for the LUEG Group Management Board, explained.

Customer-oriented and modern vehicle concepts
For more than 30 years, WAS has been successfully building state-of-the-art EMS vehicles, which are manufactured in large series, small series or as individual vehicles. WAS's facilities in Emsbüren and Torun (Poland) use modular product concepts and industrial manufacturing processes that are common to modern automotive production. Over the past two years, the company has made great progress in productivity and digitalisation, constantly offering new solutions for customers – such as the world's first fully electric E ambulance with its own box-body structure. Such developments are in line with of the LUEG Group stainability mission, which places a special focus on e-mobility. With its high level of know-how in innovative fleet management and financing solutions, LUEG will be able to provide impetus to WAS.
