Innovation Centre

The WAS Innovation Centre
Solutions that make a difference in practice

At WAS’s Innovation Centre, vehicle and system solutions are created that are consistently developed with real-world applications in mind. The focus is on the requirements of the fire service, ambulance service, police, civil protection and other emergency services. After all, when operating under time pressure, you need technology that works reliably, is intuitive to use and makes day-to-day operations noticeably easier.

WAS works closely with users to meet their needs: experience gained from real-world operations, new legal requirements, technological developments and changing operational scenarios are directly incorporated into the development and refinement of our solutions. This is how innovations are created that are not an end in themselves, but offer clear benefits: greater safety, improved ergonomics, more efficient processes and equipment that is ready to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

On this page, we showcase the latest innovations from the WAS Innovation Centre. Click on the teasers below to find out more, including details and examples of how each solution can be used.

The WAS box body panel
Robust, easy to repair, economical

WAS’s upgraded panel system makes the ambulance even more robust for demanding day-to-day operations. A reinforced outer layer, optimised profile geometry and improved repairability ensure greater stability, reduced downtime and sustainably lower maintenance costs. The design is complemented by an electrically operated locking system with a status indicator for enhanced security and reliability.

WAS Lift Assist
The carrying chair that lifts itself

WAS Lift Assist makes loading and unloading stretcher chairs significantly easier and gentler on the back. The fully electric lifting device comfortably moves the stretcher chair from ground level into the ambulance’s side compartment and back out again, without any strenuous lifting. This reduces the strain on staff, minimises the risk of injury and supports ergonomic procedures in day-to-day operations.

WAS Innovation Smartcontrol

WAS Smart Control
Everything at a glance, right by the patient’s side

WAS Smart Control brings together key information and functions in a centralised location within the patient compartment. Via an intuitive touchscreen display located directly on the patient stretcher, emergency personnel have a clear overview of relevant vehicle and patient care data at all times: from the time, temperature and oxygen levels to battery voltage, timers, a stopwatch and CPR guidance. In this way, the system supports safe procedures and even better patient care during emergency response.
