Handover of the first electric ambulances

to the Hamburg Fire Brigade

The end of November was an important moment for the Hamburg Fire Brigade and WAS. We handed over the first two WAS 500 FLUX eRTW to the Hamburg Fire Brigade. These innovative emergency response vehicles are the first of their kind with an electric drive to be delivered by WAS.

The eRTW had already been tested over a period of about four weeks in 2021. During this time, a prototype was in regular emergency service for a period of four weeks, so that all rescue workers had the opportunity to get to know and test the new vehicle. The prototype covered almost 2,000 kilometres in over 200 operations. This test was scientifically monitored by the Hamburg fire brigade in order to collect comprehensive data and insights.

One special feature of the new eRTW is the box body, which was built according to the individual specifications of the Hamburg fire department. This means that the working concept for users remains identical to that of the previous vehicles with combustion engines. This facilitates the transition and ensures that the rescue crews can work efficiently without additional training.

The introduction of the electric ambulance marks a major step towards sustainable rescue operations. With the WAS 500 FLUX eRTW, we are setting an example for environmentally friendly technologies in the emergency services and actively contributing to climate protection.
