The WAS 500 emergency ambulance, based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, was developed specifically to meet the requirements of the Canadian ambulance service. The patient compartment, designed with a consistent focus on crew safety and efficient workflows, allows rapid access to medical equipment, supplies and controls from the designated seating positions.

The lightweight aluminium sandwich-panel box body offers a robust, corrosion-resistant construction as well as extensive internal and external storage spaces. Modern vehicle technology, a high-performance air-conditioning system, CAN-bus-based vehicle management and numerous safety and comfort features support the crew in their day-to-day operations. The vehicle is configured in accordance with the Ontario Ambulance Specification and the European standard EN 1789.

The WAS 500 Sprinter ambulance is a Type C emergency ambulance based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 519 CDI with a gross vehicle weight of 5,000 kg. The well-designed box body, measuring 3,630 mm in length, 2,080 mm in width and 1,975 mm in height, offers optimal space for ergonomic and safe working conditions in the patient compartment. Intelligent systems such as WAS Smart Control, WAS Control 2.0 and a 360° camera system with AI-supported object recognition ensure maximum transparency and safety during operations. The vehicle concept is complemented by the fully electric WAS Lift Assist for back-friendly loading of the carry chair, a robust and easy-to-repair box body with an electric locking system, and a comprehensive LED warning system with high visibility from the sides and front. The equipment can be customised and the concept can be adapted to other vehicle types.
